Dear Future Employer,

I am Jiovelyn Lagua, 29 years old 5'2" in height, weighing in at 48kilos. I have shoulder length hair, and brown complexion.

I took up Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education - up to the third year. Unfortunately I was not able to complete it.

I decided to come here in Hong Kong so that I can support my mother in her daily needs because she's old now.

I'm currently working for a couple, a police man and his wife, a professor. I look after 3 children. Ages 11,7 & 4. Two boys and one girl. I have been working with them now for over a 1yr and a half.

I enjoy my stay here because they are very kind to me especially the children. They treat me like their older sister.  Four days after I came in their home, they invited me to join them for camping. I went, as I wanted to get to know the family better. I had a really good time. They rented a cabin and we went on hikes up a mountain. I shared jokes that made them laugh and created stories. I enjoyed the children a lot, it was like I was with my nieces and nephews.

The worst thing about my job here is to wake up at around 6am and sleep at midnight, but it's okay for me, understand the situation. Here in Hong Kong, most of us domestic helpers have only one day off. I work before I leave the house during my holiday, same thing when I come back, I work before I go to sleep.

The most difficult part of my job is when the children are screaming. I have to wait till they have settled, talk to them and tell them that screaming is not an option, but rather ask properly and things could be settled faster. When they don't listen, I ask the parents directly, what would be the best remedy. I'm thankful that my employers support me.

So now, I am seeking to work as a nanny in Canada under the Live-in Caregiver Program. I can work any part of Canada, as long as there’s a job and a nice family to hire me. My future plans is to have that great opportunity to be a landed immigrant and the opportunity to complete my education.

Being a caregiver/nanny is a very decent job. I’m very flexible with my time, I’m hardworking, trustworthy and a lot of patience. To my future employer, I would like to say thank you so much for taking the time to read my short letter. I want to convince you to hire me and I know I could be a good asset to your family, I’m available anytime to take the chance to be interviewed by your good family. Have a great day.

Respectfully yours,

JIOVELYN LAGUA
