Occupational Skills
Standard
for
This
occupational skills standard defines the MINIMUM required stock of knowledge
and competencies a person must possess to qualify as a CAREGIVER/NANNY. A person is granted a National Certificate (NC)
under this occupational title once they passed the competency assessment.
1.
To
upgrade the level of skills of workers in the HEALTH, SOCIAL AND OTHER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES SECTOR with
the end view of coming up with quality products/services, optimal use of
equipment, tools and materials and increased productivity.
2.
To
provide employers with a structured basis in the preparation of job
specifications necessary for salary/wage administration.
3.
To
enhance the development of human resources through a precise assessment of
skilled workers in the HEALTH,
SOCIAL AND OTHER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES SECTOR.
4.
To
serve as a basis in the establishment of a competency assessment and
certification system, which can be used for setting up of a qualified pool of CAREGIVERS ready to serve both domestic
and overseas requirements
5.
To
serve as basis in the development of training programs over the full range of
training modalities including those of the Technical Vocational Institutions,
apprenticeships, learnerships, enterprise-based
training and community-based programs.
6.
To
facilitate the setting up of a machinery for the determination of appropriate
and adequate remuneration and
7.
Finally,
to reaffirm the government’s goal of professionalizing the skilled workers for
which role the TESDA Occupational Qualification and Certification System
(TOQCS) was established.
1.
Classification
1.1.
This Occupational Skills
Standard classifies Caregiver corresponding to a National Certificate (NC) II
under the TOQCS.
1.2.
Candidates who wish
to be assessed for their competency as CAREGIVER will be required to show
evidences that they are in possession of the knowledge, attitudes and skills
required in this standard.
1.3.
Candidates who pass
the competency assessment will be issued a level II National Certificate (NC
II) bearing their names and photographs and will be listed in the National
Registry of Workers Assessed and Certified
2. Entry
Requirements
2.1
Candidates for certification as Caregiver NC II must –
2.1.1
Have had one (1)
year work experience as any of the following–

Child Caregiver
§
Elderly Caregiver
§
Caregiver of People
with Special Needs
OR
2.1.1
Have completed a TESDA
registered training program for Caregiver conducted by any industrial/training
institution followed by on the job training or OJT of 80 hours.
For the purpose of this competency standard, the words,
· Caregiver – is a worker who is qualified to
provide personal care independently or with minimal supervision, to children,
elderly or people with special needs (disabilities)
· Child- refers to an individual with age range
from 0-13 years old
· Infant – refers to an individual with age
range from 0- 12 months (1 yr. old)
· Toddlers – refer to an individual with age
ranging from 1-3 year old
· Elderly – an individual with age ranging from
sixty (60) years old and above
· National Certificate (NC) – a certificate awarded
to an individual possessing a set of recognized competencies allotted to
defined levels of qualification in the Philippine TVET Qualification Framework
· People with Special Needs (Disabilities) - a
person incapable of performing specific tasks either physically, mentally
and/or behaviorally.
JOB DESCRIPTION
A
Caregiver provides personal care and services to people who are in need of such
care at either the client’s home (without employer’s supervision) or at an
institution.
In
particular, a caregiver can perform the following -
